This Is How You Remind Me Of Ronald Reagan

This commercial for Quaker Oats ("Wake up, America...") came across my radar today via one of the daily design blogs that I read:

As I watched this ad, I couldn't help but think that it re-e-ealy reminds me of the Hal Riney commercial for the 1984 Reagan/Bush campaign ("It's morning again in America...")

There are similarities in the pacing, narrative style, the narrator's gravely voice, the classical music, the style of cinematography, and the blatant tugging on the heart-strings. (Of course, in '84 this type of advertising wasn't seen nearly as often as it has been since Riney's classic ads.)

Playing the two videos simultaneously really highlights the similarities - try it! It makes me think of the old Nickleback mash-up, How You Remind Me of Someday, (which, in my opinion, is one of the best pieces of musical commentary ever.)
